Air Fryer Product Recall: What You Need to Know

If you own an air fryer, listen up. An overheating issue can cause the products’ parts to melt or shatter, posing fire and laceration risks. Thousands of air fryers and air fryers ovens have been recalled due to potential fire and burn hazards. Additionally, the air fryer ovens can overheat and the glass on the door can shatter.

Best Buy recalled air fryers made by the brand Insignia. More than a quarter of a million Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens in North America alone were recalled. The products were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide. It is crucial to check if your model is among the recalled insignia air fryers and other air fryer models, to ensure your safety.

I know firsthand how convenient and game-changing air fryers can be. But when I heard about this air fryer buy recall, I knew I had to dig deeper and share what I found with you.

Details of the Recall, Affected Models, Potential Hazards of Recalled Air Fryers

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of over 635,000 Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens sold by Best-& Buy stores nationwide. The recall affected Insignia models bought between November 2021 and November 2023, with prices ranging from $30 to $150.

The air fryers and air fryer ovens have cooking chamber capacities ranging from approximately 3.4 to 10 quarts, and plastic or plastic and stainless-steel bodies in black and stainless-steel finishes.

The recall involves several models of Insignia air fryers, including Digital Air Fryers, Analog Air Fryers, and Digital Air Fryer Ovens. You can find the various brand name Insignia model numbers on the product rating label on the underside of each unit.

Cosori

Around two million Cosori Air Fryers have been recalled in the US due to reports of fires and burns, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported.

The issue is due to a wire connection in the air fryers, which can overheat, posing a fire hazard, CPSC said. These models were sold between 2018 and 2022, and about 250,000 air fryers in Canada and 21,000 in Mexico were also recalled.

Cosori has received 205 reports of the air fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating, and smoking. That includes 10 incidents of minor, superficial burn injuries and 23 reports of minor property damage, CPSC said.

Empower Brands

Empower Brands recalled more than 300,000 air fryers in 2023 because of a problem with a U-Channel connector that combines the two fry baskets found in these dual-basket models. The connector can break as you’re using it and pose a burn hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice, there have been 41 reports of the air fryer breaking during use, and three reports of burns. Two of the company’s dual-basket PowerXL air fryer models are involved in the recall.

Models were sold from August 2021 through October 2023. These models were sold in black or cinnamon color. The products have a silver label on the front that says “PowerXL,” as well as a white label on the bottom or on the power cord, which lists the model no.

The reason for the recall had to do with a wire connection in the air fryer that could cause it to overheat. The two models recalled were sold online on Secura’s website and Amazon from May 2019 to October 2020 for up to $90.

No injuries or property damage has been reported, but USCPSC has received nine reports of the fryer catching fire, burning, and smoking. The air fryers measure about 12 inches high, 11 inches deep, and 12 inches wide. The air fryers were sold online at thesecura.com and Amazon.com from May 2019, through October 2020, for between $48 and $90.

The models are black in color with silver accents. The brand name Secura is on the top of each unit. The model no and four-digit date code are printed on the silver labels located at the bottom of each unit. The air fryers measure about 12 inches high, 11 inches deep and 12 inches wide.

You can contact Secura for an Amazon gift card in the amount of $45 or a free replacement at the consumer’s choice with Secura products as listed on Secura’s webpage at https://www.thesecura.com/recall/. No receipt is needed to receive a replacement fryer from the company.

Cosori

Atekcity, the importer of Cosori air fryers, recalled more than 2 million air fryers because they could overheat, which can cause fire, burn, and laceration hazards. There were 205 reports of the recalled air fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating, and smoking, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice. This included 10 reports of minor, superficial burns, as well as 23 reports of minor property damage.

The brand name Cosori is on the front of each unit. The model no is printed on the bottom label of each unit and on the accompanying user manual. The units are size 3.7 and 5.8 quarts and were sold in black, gray, white, blue, or red colors. These models cost between $70 and $130 and were sold from June 2018 through December 2022.

You can contact Cosori to receive your choice of a free replacement air fryer or another Cosori product by registering at recall.cosori.com. During registration, you must provide your contact information and submit photos of the recalled unit with the cord cut off. No receipt is needed to receive a replacement.

Newair recalled air fryer ovens due to possible overheating, posing fire, burn, and laceration and burn hazards. 11,750 Magic Chef air fryers were a part of the recall.

No incidents or injuries were reported.

Magic Chef is printed on the top of the fryers and the rating label on the bottom has the brand name Magic Chef along with the model number. The air fryers measure about 13 inches by 15 inches by 14 inches.

Models were sold from July 2018 through September 2020 for between $115 to $138. Magic Chef is printed on the top of the fryers and the rating label on the bottom has the brand name Magic Chef along with the model no.

The air fryers measure about 13 inches by 15 inches by 14 inches.

Next, visit the recall website set up by Best Buy and the CPSC. Enter your fryer model number to quickly determine if your unit is part of the recall.

What to Do if Your Air Fryer Has Been Recalled

If your oven fryers and air fryer are part of the recall, immediately stop using it and unplug the device.

Make sure to have proof of your purchase receipt. I like to make a photocopy of all my purchase receipts and keep the original in a file.
