Ingredients
For tuna steaks
2tuna steaks
1tablespoonolive oil
⅔teaspoonsalt
½teaspoonpepper
oil spray
Herby Lemon Caper Sauce
¼red onion, chopped finely
3tablespoona handful of parsley, chopped finely
1tablespoonbaby capers, marinated in brine, chopped finely
1tablespooncaper juice
zest of ½ lemon
juice of ½ lemon
⅓cupolive oil
½teaspoonsalt
½teaspoonsugar (can be omitted)
½teaspoonpepper
Instructions
Rub tuna steaks with olive oil and season with salt, and pepper, on each side. Set aside.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C), for about 3-4 minutes. Spray with a little oil to prevent sticking.
Place the seasoned tuna steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between them for even cooking.
Cook the tuna steaks in the air fryer for 4 minutes, flipping over halfway through. This will give you medium-rare results (cooked edges and pinkish in the middle). For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of about 125-130°F (52-55°C).
For a rare result (barely seared and quite pink in the middle), go for 3 minutes. The time might differ depending on the thickness of the steaks. It's always better to undercook the steaks and throw them in for a little longer than to overcook.
Storing tips: After cooking air fryer tuna steaks, let them cool to room temperature before storing them. If unsliced, you can wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, otherwise place them in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. Cooked tuna steaks don’t freeze well! Use within 2-3 days: Cooked tuna steaks should be consumed within 2-3 days of cooking for the best quality and freshness. Beyond that time, the texture and flavor may begin to deteriorate.
